Patients should be advised of the importance of compliance with antimicrobial therapy. Education on safe sex practices, with a focus on condom use and information about disease transmission, is very important.[43] Avoidance of alcohol and drug abuse should be encouraged. The patient should inform sexual partners of the diagnosis so that they can seek treatment, even if asymptomatic.[43] Although relapse is rare, re-infection can occur if the partner is untreated.[15]
