Screening

Dyslipidaemia is a well-established risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and can be treated with appropriate interventions. The American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and American College of Endocrinology guidelines recommend that all adults 20 years of age or older should be evaluated for dyslipidaemia every 5 years, with more frequent testing recommended as patients become older.[58] In the UK and Europe, lipid screening usually starts at age 40.[11][59] Screening may begin earlier for those with diabetes in childhood or a family history of dyslipidaemia.
