Vaccination

Natural infection does not result in immunity to subsequent infection.[33][78] In swine models, immunization with Haemophilus ducreyi hemoglobin receptor HbA has shown efficacy in preventing infection with chancroid. The mechanism of protection is unknown.[79] No human vaccine is available, although several putative candidates have been identified.[80]

Single-dose combination antibiotic therapy

Single-dose combination therapy may improve efficacy of and compliance with chancroid treatment and reduce the need for multiple-dose regimens. Synergy has been shown with ceftriaxone and streptomycin in a rabbit model. Data to support this finding are still limited.[64]
