Monitoring

Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a chronic condition. Repeat esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) to assess endoscopic and histologic disease activity is recommended after initiating or changing treatment, or with a change or worsening in clinical status.[3][28]

Symptoms only modestly correlate with other measures of disease activity.[180] When EoE is in remission and well controlled, regular clinic visits (i.e., every 3-6 months in children, particularly to monitor growth and nutrition; and every 6-12 months in adults) are required. There are no formal recommendations on routine endoscopic surveillance, and this practice varies depending on the center.
