Prognosis

The prognosis for both medial and lateral epicondylitis is excellent. The majority of patients experience symptom resolution with conservative treatment.[21][35][57]

Studies indicate that about 90% of patients with lateral epicondylitis will have normal elbow motion and be participating in athletic pursuits 10 years post-surgery.[82] Mean subjective estimate of elbow function has been found to improve from 38% to 98% of normal after surgery for medial epicondylitis.[84] All patients should be informed preoperatively of possible decreased grip strength after surgery.[4]
