Patient discussions
Advise patients to abstain from sexual intercourse until after both they and their partner have completed their antibiotic treatment and symptoms have resolved. If symptoms persist or recur after completing antibiotic therapy, advise patients to return for evaluation. If urethral inflammation is still present, re-treatment is indicated.
All patients should be tested for other sexually transmitted infections, including HIV and syphilis. Patients should be re-tested 3 months after treatment.[1]
