Prognosis

While research is lacking in the area of patient outcomes, prognosis for resolution of paradoxical vocal fold motion (intermittent laryngeal obstruction) (PVFM/ILO) is excellent when the condition is accurately diagnosed and treated appropriately. There are case reports of severe cases of PVFM/ILO in patients with other medical complications as well that required aggressive medical treatment, which included botulinum toxin and tracheostomy. Other complications from undiagnosed PVFM/ILO have included unnecessary drug use and high use of medical resources.[74][108][110]
