Patient discussions
Following contrast enema (air or liquid) reduction, parents of patients should be advised that, if their child develops fever, vomiting, abdominal pain, rectal bleeding, or lethargy, then they should return to the emergency department immediately as perforation may have occurred. They should also return if the child develops signs and symptoms of recurrence. Following surgical reduction, any signs of wound infection (increasing redness or pain, oozing, or fever) should be brought to the attention of their physician and/or surgeon.[32]
