Vitamin C is a crucial nutrient that supports collagen production, immune function, and wound healing. A deficiency in vitamin C can lead to symptoms such as fatigue, bruising, bleeding gums, and slow wound healing. In order to avoid these problems it is important to ensure adequate vitamin C intake, either through supplementation as recommended by a healthcare provider or by consuming a diet rich in fruits and vegetables.[74] Good dietary sources of vitamin C include citrus fruits, strawberries, bell peppers, tomatoes, and broccoli. Since vitamin C is sensitive to heat, overcooking foods can reduce their vitamin C content, so it is best to consume them raw or lightly cooked when possible. Additionally, individuals with restrictive diets, chronic illnesses, or other risk factors may need closer monitoring to maintain sufficient vitamin C levels.[77]
