Criteria
Standardization of Uveitis Nomenclature (SUN) Working Group grading for intraocular inflammation[2]
Anterior chamber cells (number of cells in 1 mm by 1 mm slit beam)
Grade 0 is <1
Grade 0.5+ is 1-5
Grade 1+ is 6-15
Grade 2+ is 16-25
Grade 3+ is 26-50
Grade 4+ is >50.
Anterior chamber flare
Grade 0 is none
Grade 1+ is faint
Grade 2+ is moderate (iris and lens detail clear)
Grade 3+ is marked (iris and lens detail hazy)
Grade 4+ is intense (fibrin or plastic aqueous).
SUN terminology for activity of uveitis[2]
Inactive: grade 0 cells
Worsening activity: 2-step increase in level of inflammation or increase to grade 4+
Improved activity: 2-step decrease in level of inflammation or decrease to grade 0
Remission: inactive disease for >3 months after stopping medical therapy.
Posterior uveitis grading[2]
Grade 0: no vitreous cells
Grade 1: vitreous cells with clear view of the posterior fundus
Grade 2: vitreous cells with poor view of details, and view of the optic nerve and retinal vessel
