Aetiology

Pathophysiology
The effects of sexual assault and abuse can last long after the incident in the form of mental health disorders. Depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and substance abuse disorders are common sequelae. Mental health disturbances may manifest as behavioural changes in young children. Behavioural changes include internal or depressive symptoms, and external acting-out behaviours.
