Patient discussions
Patients should be instructed to follow up for routine sexually transmitted infection screening in 3 to 12 months, or in 1 month if pregnant or if symptoms persist.
Sexual partners must be treated for infection, and patients should abstain from sexual intercourse for at least 1 week after treatment is initiated.
Any chemical irritants, such as vaginal douches, lubricants, and spermicides, should be avoided.
