Monitoring

All patients should be offered counselling and testing for other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), such as syphilis, hepatitis, and HIV.

Repeat testing at 4 to 6 months is also recommended as part of the standard screening protocol for STIs.

Test of cure (which is performed 1 week after treatment) is only required for patients with persistent symptoms, for those who had an alternative treatment regimen, or in pregnancy.[34] If symptoms persist, the vaginal fluid should be examined for bacterial vaginosis, and exposure to chemical irritants should be assessed.
