Monitoring
Regular follow-up visits are required. Careful examination every 4 to 6 months is necessary. Where there is any evidence of clinical changes, a further biopsy is indicated to establish whether there is an increase in severity of any associated epithelial dysplasia or, indeed, overt malignant transformation. At selected follow-up visits brush biopsy and/or conventional biopsy may also be used to screen for molecular markers of malignant transformation, although this remains under investigation.[21][122][120]
