Secondary prevention
The autoimmune processes that cause Goodpasture’s disease generally remit, either over weeks (with treatment) or months (spontaneously), after which recurrence is uncommon.[4] Smoking cessation is critical in avoiding recurrent pulmonary haemorrhage while autoantibodies persist. Often patients are left with chronic kidney disease, in which case the relevant secondary preventions are appropriate. See Chronic kidney disease (Prevention).
