Epidemiology
Anti-glomerular basement membrane (anti-GBM) disease is quite rare, with an estimated incidence of 1 to 2 cases per million.[4] It causes 1% to 2% of all cases of glomerulonephritis and about 10% to 20% of all crescentic glomerulonephritis.[3][4] In one series, anti-GBM antibodies were found in 15% of patients presenting with a pulmonary-renal syndrome.[5] About 30% to 40% patients present with renal limited disease.[1] Between 30% to 50% of patients with anti-GBM disease also have positive anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies.[1][5] There is a male predominance with cases divided approximately 60% male, 40% female.[3] There are 2 age peaks: at 20 to 30 years, and at 60 to 70 years.[5] Approximately 83% of cases occur in white people.[3] In Chinese patients, the incidence is 0.6 cases per million population per year.[6]
