Monitoring
While on immunosuppression, patients are reviewed at least monthly by a nephrologist. While on cyclophosphamide, a full blood count is obtained weekly. After the disease is in remission when off immunosuppression, follow-up may be reduced to every 3 to 6 months for management of residual chronic kidney disease, monitoring for recurrence (which is very rare), and surveillance for haematuria related to the cyclophosphamide therapy (which is very unlikely after 3 months of therapy). Patients are often left with some degree of renal impairment requiring appropriate management.
