Epidemiology

Ovarian cancer is the eighth most common cancer in women worldwide.[7] In 2020, it was estimated that 313,959 new cases of ovarian cancer and 207,252 deaths from ovarian cancer occurred worldwide.[7]

It is estimated that there were 19,680 new cases of ovarian cancer and 12,740 deaths from ovarian cancer in the US in 2024.[8][9]​​​ Lifetime risk of developing ovarian cancer is approximately 1.1%.[8]

In Europe, an estimated 69,472 cases of ovarian cancer were diagnosed in 2022, with 46,232 deaths from this cancer.[10]

In the US, non-Hispanic white women and non-Hispanic American-Indian/Alaska Native women have the highest risk for ovarian cancer, but variation among races is small.​[8][9]​​​

The incidence of ovarian cancer increases with age. Median age at diagnosis in the US is 63 years, and median age at death is 71 years.[8] Overall 5-year survival rate is 50.9%.​[8]

In the UK, ovarian cancer is the sixth most common cancer in women, with approximately 7500 new cases and 4100 deaths each year.[11]
