Cerebral arteriovenous malformation

Patients should be advised to avoid illicit drug use, and that their blood pressure should be monitored and controlled. While other vascular risk factors such as diabetes and smoking have not been demonstrated to affect the behaviour of arteriovenous malformations, it is advisable to monitor and normalise them to reduce the risk of additional cerebro-vascular disease and the associated loss of autoregulation.
