Dry eye disease

Although dry eye is difficult to screen for, when patients present with features of dry eye it can prompt screening for associated diseases, such as undiagnosed Sjögren syndrome. Delays in the diagnosis of Sjögren syndrome can lead to systemic manifestations of the various diseases linked to it. In this respect, eyecare professionals are in a unique position to detect Sjögren syndrome early as they see dry eye patients on a regular basis.
