Secondary impetigo is an occasional complication. Treatment is the same as primary impetigo and includes topical fusidic acid and, in more severe cases, oral antibiotics.

Topical corticosteroids should be applied sparingly and used for brief periods. Calcineurin inhibitors should be considered an alternative treatment when skin atrophy has occurred.
