Parents of children who have been treated for volume depletion are advised to observe their child for signs of deterioration (e.g., altered mental state and decreased urine output).
Children who have been treated with volume depletion secondary to acute gastroenteritis can be advised to continue with an age-appropriate diet. Breastfed babies should continue to breastfeed.
Patients who have been treated for diabetic ketoacidosis should be evaluated by their usual healthcare provider after 24 hours of discharge from the hospital.
