Secondary prevention

Prenatal counseling is important. Family members of affected patients should be screened for disease or carrier status. This is completed by laboratory assays and/or genetic testing. In-utero testing is possible with counseling regarding preimplantation genetics. For affected patients, prevention of infectious complications includes antibiotic prophylaxis with or without administration of interferon gamma. BCG vaccination should be avoided.[93]
