Monitoring
Frequency of follow-up depends on disease severity, etiology, and treatment.
Close follow-up is needed for patients with adenoviral conjunctivitis who are being treated with corticosteroids. Patients with adenoviral conjunctivitis who are not being treated with corticosteroids should return for follow-up if they are symptomatic after 2 to 3 weeks.[1]
Patients with gonococcal conjunctivitis should be seen every day until conjunctivitis has resolved. Patients with chlamydial conjunctivitis should be followed up after treatment, due to the high rate of treatment failure.[1]
