Adjunctive intravitreal drug therapy
Evidence for the prevention of postoperative proliferative vitreoretinopathy (a cause of failure of retinal reattachment surgery) with low-molecular-weight heparin alone, or with fluorouracil, is inconsistent.[60] One randomized, double-blind trial to evaluate the preventive effect of intravitreal fluorouracil and heparin in high-risk patients with retinal detachment is ongoing.[61][62]
