Prognosis
The prognosis for patients with celiac disease is good.[183] Most, up to 90% in some studies, will have complete and lasting resolution of symptoms on a gluten-free diet alone. Ongoing gluten exposure, lactose intolerance, constipation, and irritable bowel syndrome account for most of the 10% of people with persistent symptoms. Fewer than 1% of patients can be expected to develop refractory celiac disease.[14]
