Secondary prevention
Preventive methods for warts are difficult to put into action. Individuals are exposed to wart-causing human papillomaviruses viruses multiple times in the course of the day. Generally, patients should avoid nail biting, prolonged water immersion of the digits, or repetitive contact with raw meat or fish. Extremities and digits should be thoroughly dried after swimming or exposure to fresh water. Skin-to-skin contact with affected individuals should be avoided.
