Patient discussions
Prevention of miliaria relies on controlling heat and humidity so as to avoid stimulating sweating. Educating patients on the causes of miliaria before travel to a tropical environment or engaging in work or sports in a hot environment are important. Patients in such environments should wear loose-fitting clothing, apply judicious amounts of an appropriate sunscreen/sunblock and reapply every 2 hours, and practice good hygiene including cooling showers or baths. Application of topical anhydrous lanolin before exercise may prevent new lesions from forming.
Parents of infants with miliaria should be educated regarding avoiding heavy bundling in infants.[48]
Adults who develop miliaria during travel or military service in tropical regions should try to gradually acclimatize to the new environment before engaging in heavy exercise or labor.[48]
