Primary prevention

Infertility is often associated with lifestyles that incorporate high-risk behaviors (e.g., obesity, smoking, unprotected sexual encounters with multiple partners).[15][16][76] Although strong evidence that lifestyle modifications improve fertility is lacking, a healthy diet and lifestyle is recommended for its beneficial effects on general health.[64]

A large proportion of infertility is also associated with advancing maternal age.[12][13] People who are concerned about fertility can be informed that over 80% of couples in which the woman is aged under 40 years will conceive within 1 year of having regular sexual intercourse without contraception, and of those who do not conceive in the first year, about half will do so in the second year.[1]
