Pulmonary hemorrhage is much more likely to occur in cigarette smokers.[6][7]​​​ Smoking cessation is critical in avoiding recurrent pulmonary hemorrhage whilst autoantibodies persist as this can be rapidly fatal.

plasma exchange removes clotting factors from the blood; thus, patients can become coagulopathic. If this occurs patients may need transfusion with fresh frozen plasma to replace the clotting factors.

long term
high

Patients that escape early dialysis-dependence are often left with some degree of renal impairment requiring appropriate management. Regular monitoring by the primary care doctor and nephrologist is advised to manage any residual kidney disease or hypertension.
