Prognosis
Narcolepsy is almost always a lifelong condition. Almost one half of people with narcolepsy have daily life impairment from excessive daytime sleepiness and/or cataplexy.[119]
Although a few patients with narcolepsy manage to combat hypersomnolence with nonpharmacologic strategies, most patients require medication. Despite medication, daytime performance rarely normalizes.[120][121][122] In most patients, symptoms remain stable, unless the patient develops tolerance to medication.
