Patient discussions
Symptoms are often worse with more activity in the hands, but it is not recommended to necessarily stop physical activity altogether. CTS does also seem to slowly progress over time but often this is over many years; it can also spontaneously disappear for months or years at a time.
Patients should be reminded that symptoms should not be ignored, as this nerve is very important for hand function, especially for fine-motor tasks. Sometimes, as the nerve becomes more damaged, symptoms diminish as there is less nerve to warn that something is wrong. These are good reasons to seek medical help if numbness/tingling/pain or strength worsens in the hand and wrist.
