Emerging treatments

Physical therapy

A high-quality trial showed that manual physical therapy interventions may be as effective as surgery in the short term. However, earlier trials have shown no benefit with physical therapy, so this finding will need to be reproduced before changes in clinical practice are made.[59]

Laser therapy

Some studies have found that low-level laser therapy improves outcomes including function, symptoms, and electrophysiologic measures compared to placebo in patients with CTS. However, findings remain mixed, with other studies finding no benefit compared to placebo or other interventions such as transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS).[3] Further research is warranted to assess the potential of laser therapy in this indication.
