Monitoring
Asymptomatic patients without mitral regurgitation (MR), or patients with mild regurgitation, are evaluated every 3 to 5 years.
Echocardiography should be repeated in this group if symptoms develop or if clinical exam changes.[1]
Patients with moderate MR should be followed up annually with repeat echocardiogram. Patients with severe primary MR should be reviewed at least every 6 months with echocardiogram. Stress echocardiogram can be used in selected patients.
There is no contraindication to pregnancy with MVP alone.[1][2]
