Engaging psychological support and counseling allows recognition of disease chronicity and builds coping skills. Co-existing psychiatric illness (depression, anxiety) should be addressed with identification of triggering life-events.
In patients with emotional, physical, or sexual abuse history, appropriate referral to counseling and psychological treatments is recommended.
