Epidemiology

In the US, it has been estimated that, in 2024, there will be 9280 new cases of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and 1280 deaths from this cancer.[12] CML accounts for approximately 15% of all new leukemia cases in the US.[13]

In the US, incidence peaks between the ages of 65 and 74 years, but people of all ages can be affected.[12]

The median age at diagnosis in the US is 66 years.[12] CML is more common in males (age-adjusted rate of new cases per 100,000 people [all races] 2.5 males:1.5 females).[12]

In the UK, annual incidence of CML is 1.1 per 100,000, with an estimated 720 people newly diagnosed each year (data from 2010 to 2019).[14]
