Most patients have only mild upper respiratory symptoms, for which no specific therapy is required. Children with asthma, in particular, are at higher risk for severe symptoms from EV-D68. Patients with worsening of symptoms or difficulty breathing should be encouraged to seek prompt medical attention. Patients with severe symptoms can deteriorate rapidly.
