Epidemiology

The incidence and prevalence of pityriasis lichenoides are unclear. Prevalence of pityriasis lichenoides in the US has not been reported; some estimate incidence around 1 in 2000 people.[3] Pityriasis lichenoides may present in an individual of any age, race, and geographic area. However, it does maintain a slight male predisposition and tends to present in late childhood and early adulthood.[1] The peak prevalence has shown to be around the third decade.[4] In children, pityriasis lichenoides demonstrates seasonal variation with most likely onset in the fall or winter.[5]
