Monitoring
Intensive care unit monitoring during the course of hospitalization is very important in the management of patients presenting with ALF, in order to provide optimal care and minimize complications. Following spontaneous recovery from ALF, patients should continue follow-up with their primary care and specialty care providers, including hepatologists. Depending on the etiology of ALF, they may have a subsequent chronic liver disease that requires long-term therapy. Likewise, if a liver transplant is performed, postoperative care including immunosuppression management must be monitored closely.
