Histoplasmosis

Most infections caused by Histoplasma capsulatum are self-limiting, especially in healthy people. However, disseminated histoplasmosis is fatal if untreated. Acute pulmonary histoplasmosis with moderate to severe symptoms caused by a high inoculum exposure and infections in immunocompromised patients may also be fatal and warrant immediate therapy.
