Patient discussions
Lactose-intolerant patients (and parents of lactose-intolerant children) should be advised that ingestion of dairy and non-dairy lactose-containing products resulting in symptoms generally only leads to transient symptoms without causing harm to the gastrointestinal tract (contrary to the case in coeliac disease), and there are no long-term complications if good intake of calories, proteins, calcium, and vitamin D is maintained.[2]
Several online resources give excellent information on diets low in lactose, and daily nutritional requirements for a healthy balanced diet. NHS.
