Complications
Right-sided heart failure is relatively uncommon, but can be seen in children with severe obstructive sleep apnoea.
Regular blood pressure monitoring is needed. If being used, close monitoring of compliance with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is required. Use of CPAP in adults with obstructive sleep apnoea-related hypertension has been shown to lower blood pressure.[136]
Has been shown to improve following treatment of obstructive sleep apnoea.[141]
Pulmonary hypertension is relatively uncommon, but can be seen in children with severe obstructive sleep apnoea, as well as in children with Down's syndrome who have a predisposition.
Obstructive sleep apnoea can cause derangement in leptin and ghrelin levels, resulting in increased caloric intake.
