Patient discussions

  • Feeding: small amount of vomiting is expected. The baby should be kept sitting up for 30 minutes after each feeding. If vomiting continues, parents should call their surgeon.

  • Incision care: sponge bathing for the first 2 to 3 days after going home is preferred. Parents are advised to call if discharge or redness are noted at the incision site, or if the patient develops fever.

  • Pain: should be mild and can be treated with paracetamol. Severe pain warrants contacting the surgeon on call.
