Primary prevention

No primary preventative strategies have been identified other than avoidance of conditions (high heat and humidity with occlusive clothing) that increase the chance of miliaria formation.

Secondary prevention

Prevention of miliaria relies on controlling heat and humidity so as to avoid stimulating sweating. Wherever possible, conditions of high heat or humidity should be avoided. If exposed to such conditions, precautions such as limiting activity, wearing light clothing, practicing good hygiene, and using sunscreen should be taken. Application of topical anhydrous lanolin before exercise may prevent new lesions from forming. Topical antibacterials may also be effective in preventing future eruptions.
