The outlook for patients with PDB is usually good, although it varies between people. The outlook is improved if treatment is provided before any significant complications have developed. Treatment can control PDB and may induce remission for a period of time but it is not a cure and the disease may become active again. The prognosis is significantly worse if an osteosarcoma develops but fortunately this is a rare complication.
