Extracorporeal shock wave therapy
Extracorporeal shock wave therapy has been suggested as a possible therapy for recalcitrant bursitis. The rationale for shock wave therapy is inhibition of pain receptors and stimulation of soft-tissue healing. There is no consensus for differentiating between low-energy and high-energy shock waves.[30] It has been used with some success in calcific tendonitis and greater trochanteric pain syndrome, but its role in clinical practice is uncertain.[31]
