Monitoring
Most patients usually stop bleeding spontaneously before endoscopic evaluation.
Monitor the patient using a validated early warning score (e.g., National Early Warning Score 2 [NEWS2]).[31] NEWS2 Opens in new window Serial haemoglobin levels after endoscopic therapy should be considered only in patients with a high risk of rebleeding. Prothrombin time/international normalised ratio should be monitored, and if prolonged should be corrected with fresh frozen plasma and/or vitamin K (phytomenadione). Associated lesions should be identified during endoscopy and treated accordingly.
