Skin biopsy can be used to confirm atypical or confusing cases.

Histopathological evaluation will demonstrate a superficial perivascular lymphohistiocytic infiltrate with focal spongiosis, focal parakeratosis in mounds, dyskeratotic keratinocytes, papillary dermal oedema, possible dermal eosinophils, and extravasated red blood cells.[7]
