In 2024, there will be an estimated 20,800 new cases of AML and 11,220 deaths related to AML in the US.[5] In the UK, there are an estimated 2945new cases of AML each year (2017-2018 data).[6]
AML is more common in older adults.[5][6] In the US, approximately 61% of cases are diagnosed in those aged 65 years or over (2017-2021 data).[5] The median age at diagnosis is 69 years in the US.[5]
In the UK, approximately 66% of cases are diagnosed in people aged 65 years or over (2017-2018 data).[6]
AML is more common in men, with a male to female ratio of approximately 1.5:1 in the US.[5] In the UK, 56% of AML cases are in males and 44% are in females.[6]
