International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF)

Standardised questionnaires are an important research tool and clinically can be used before the face-to-face encounter or to quantify the degree of dysfunction. IIEF is used as a primary endpoint in >50 clinical trials. The IIEF is thoroughly reviewed in the attached references.[53][54][65]

Addresses all domains of male sexual dysfunction (ED, orgasmic function, sexual desire, ejaculation, intercourse, and overall satisfaction).

Composed of 15 questions; an abbreviated format of five questions can also be used: the sexual health inventory for men.

Validated in 32 languages.

A self-reporting instrument effective at evaluating disease severity and response to treatment and meets psychometric criteria for test reliability and validity, having a high degree of sensitivity and specificity.

The IIEF classifies the severity of ED into five categories stratified by score:[66]

  • No ED (26 to 30)

  • Mild (22 to 25)

  • Mild to moderate (17 to 21)

  • Moderate (11 to 16)

  • Severe (6 to 10).
